Hi there again! I became quite dire at blogging when I came home from Texas in August. I think not being stuck in an office for 10 hours in a day played a role in this (VoxTech, I miss you!). How and ever, I’m home in Ireland, home in DUBLIN to be exact and am back to studying journalism. Final Year. ICK.

So, with my life sorted, lectures   for the time being and a new job in Debenhams, I’m going to give the old blogging another shot. Hopefully, we’ll get to a new total of posts that actually hits twenty this time! HUZZAH!

I hope to be writing about things that I like, such as music, fashion, movies, my life (if anything exciting happens) and general musings.

At 6.15pm, upon leaving the office in Richardson in which we work, we realised we were the last two people left in the building and that we had set off the alarm coming out the front door. We tried ringing our employer and there was no answer. Lo and behold, what comes speeding up the road only a Richardson Police Force squad car. Great. The copper was actually nice, but intimidating in an extreme way. He asked to see some I.D. Greg had none on him, David (who had come to give us a lift home) had none and I had my Irish drivers license. Which could not be further from a US drivers license in appearance. It looks kind of dodgy, two Irish youngsters with not a visa in sight accompanied by another Irish man with no drivers license or any other I.D. Very sort of illegal Irish alert. Anyway, he accepted my driver’s license and my Garda ID together, and took David’s details. And processed them. And told David that there was a warrant out for his arrest in Dallas for building citations. He could have been taken downtown, but it sort of got straightened out.

This all happened because David was 15 mins late collecting us from work. Serves him right.

Oh yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read correctly. For last night, I experienced something new and wonderful. Along with 3 others, I went to a magical place called the Studio Movie Grill, aptly named so because you eat while you watch your movie.

The concept is simple. Good food and good viewing; a winning combination. Upon purchasing your ticket at the box office, you receive a menu and a little light up thingy majiggy to attract the waitress when you want to order. The theaters have little tables and the seats are on wheels for your convenience. There is a bar too, which is overpriced but WHATEVER. It is a bar. In the CINEMA!

I’d already seen the Hangover (for those of you who haven’t, go, go, GO. It is side splittingly hilarious!), but watching it the second time with chicken quesidillas and bacon cheese fries just could not be beaten.

C’mon The Savoy, Dublin. You have some catching up to do!

Queso. What is that, I hear you ask. Only THE most delicious starter/appetizer/any time of the day snack that one could think of. It is basically a bowl of melted cheese that is spiced and seasoned and served with nacho chips (or just chips as they call them here in Dallas. Weirdos.) It is soooooo good and I will be devastated when I get back to Ireland and can’t buy it. Cue sad face.

Ranch dressing is something I also have expereinced here that is HUGELY popular and oh so yum. It’s like liquidy garlicy mayonaissey goodness and it goes with everything from salads to … well, anything!

Queso and ranch. Not together of course. Two things too good to leave behind. So I will be almost definitely smuggling some home. OH YESH lads. Ireland here we come.

Could this be a dance to rival the Macarena? The Cha Cha slide? Possibly even Rock the Boat?? I sure hope so!

Wrong.

Out of 9 theatreplexs, including one with 24 screens, ALL were sold out. No joke. One cinema had 12 sold out screens. TWELVE. At midnight. When there are no kids awake.

I was shocked to say the least, and Greg was devo. Tote loike. But apparently, according to my 15 yr old sister back in the homeland, the same happened in Ireland. That said, the film is meant to be VAIR good, “the best yet”, according to critics. I hold out hope, because I didn’t like any of the other films. HOGWARTS IS DIFFERENT IN MY MIND, OK?

Hopefully get to see it tonight. I’m sure there will be room for two little ones. EXPECTO PATRONUM.

The idea of buying clothes in a thrift store is new to me, but when some friends recommended Buffalo Exchange on Greenville Ave, I decided to give it a go. Buffalo Exchange sell used and new clothes, and it is quite the place to shop if you are young and hip. There are some fabulous check shirts and tshirts instore, and if you like wearing men’s shirts, this is the place to go.

I was disappointed with their selection of handbags and wallets, but fell in LOVE with their jewellery section. They were selling to EXACT same earrings Miranda wore in the Sex and the City movie for $10. I keep forgetting to go back and buy they, so fingers crossed they are still there.

The store is well laid out, for a thrift store, but you do need to root about to find stuff. I would recommend it if you have a good eye for statement items or if you have lots of time to kill. Otherwise, H&M or Forever 21 are easier options.

On Thursday night (well, Friday morning) at 12.01am, myself and Greg went to see Sacha Baron Cohen in the AMC Theater, Northpark Mall, Dallas. There were two full auditoriums for the showing, and trust me, these are not like the cinemas in Storm in Cavan. The screen was MASSIVE, like about half the size of a football pitch, no joke.

So we all settled down and watched Bruno, Austria’s answer to Ryan Seacrest, attempt to become famous. He leaves his homeland and makes his was to NYC to become a celebrity.

Now, this film is hilarious. But good God, it is extreme. I was speechless by the time the credits rolled. It is vulgar, it is explicit, it is stereotypical and it is pure comedy genius. Cohen is fearless in his approach, interviewing terrorists in the Middle East, and hosting a cagefight infront of a scarily bloodthirsty mid western crowd.

Parts of the film were recorded here, in Dallas, including the one where Bruno is a guest on a chat show and introduces his “Gayby” with the traditional African name of OJ. There seems to be outrage from the people who were guests in the audience, and I read in one Dallas magazine that they were lured to the studio under the pretence that they were to take part in a chat show about family values, and that they really did try and have the baby featured taken off Bruno. Seriously.

All in all, the movie caters to people who want a good laugh and don’t have opinions about nudity, homosexuality and general piss taking of values. I thought it was an absolute riot and a must see. The girl sitting to the left of me in the cinema didn’t. She didn’t laugh once.
